Butoh dance: Kea Tonetti
acousmatic music: Denis Royer
If the cycle of a life begins with birth and ends with death, the cycle of life is marked by the incessant movement between abundance and deprivation, awakening and sleep, happiness and suffering, development and decline… Animal sovereignty and human civilizations have experienced these revolutions (wars, regimes of deprivation, health crises, climate change) before finding a more acceptable life, a more essential modality. (Denis Royer)
Created in five movements, the composition Traffics marks one of these life cycles: “The Essential Mode” (vital balance), “The Vicious Circle” (seeking mastery over nature, inequality), “The Comfort” (exploitation and enticement of the poorest), “The Crisis,” and then “The Return to Life.”
In the dance of reality, ghosts and demons generate suffering and ignorance, distancing us from our essential nature, in union with the mystery. The sound of mystery resides deep within the soul, speaking to our hearts through the pure eyes of a child, the beauty of a flower, the flight of the soul through the universe, the force of life and Nature, where everything transforms. Vibrant with light, life takes countless forms embracing them with love. (Kea Tonetti)
The performance was created for the music Traffics and presented at the En Chair et en Son Festival in Paris in 2022.
