Kea Tonetti

Dancer, teacher, performer, and choreographer. Her artistic and pedagogical research combines Butoh dance with Sensitive Dance® and is oriented toward an inner, artistic, and spiritual exploration of existence. Hers is a “dance of the soul” that nourishes the Being and seeks the union of mind, heart, body, and spirit, “presence,” and the expansion of Consciousness. It opens up to sensations, in contact with others and with Nature, generating vital energy.

Among her themes: the Beauty of existence, in its many forms, in its strength and fragility, the awakening of an original body, free from social patterns, dancing Nature, in its various forms, inner landscapes, images of art, memories, interiority, and myths. Seeking a state of meditative “emptiness,” in which to let oneself dance and go through transformation and catharsis.

Born in 1971, she began her dance training in Italy in 1978 and continued it in New York, South of France, and Paris in 1990, exploring various forms of dance: classical, modern, contemporary, dance theater; she also researched tribal and ritual dances. Among the various teachers she met, she trained with Dominique Dupuy and Raffaella Giordano. In New York, she attended the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Steps, Martha Graham’s school, and the Limón Institute. In Paris, she attended Peter Goss’ School, La Ménagerie de Verre, and trained at Studio Harmonic, where she was awarded a scholarship. She also attended seminars in Italy on theatrical clowning with Pierre Byland and theater with Danio Manfredini.

In 2000, she discovered Sensitive Dance®, a somatic practice born from the encounter between dance and osteopathy, founded by dancer Claude Coldy and osteopaths Jean-Louis Dupuy and Marie Guyon. With them she undertook a four-year training course, becoming a teacher of this practice in 2008 and deepening her practice of dance in contact with the elements of nature. For several years, she assisted Claude Coldy in his workshops in nature and in the studio.

In 2002, she encountered Butoh and fell in love with it, finding in this art form the possibility of combining her research in dance with her spiritual research. He studied in Europe and Japan with various Butoh teachers, training for a long period with Atsushi Takenouchi (Jinen Butoh), then deepening his research by studying with Yoshito Ohno, Yukio Waguri, Seisaku, and Yuri Nagaota (Tatsumi Hijikata Butoh), Masaki Iwana (White Butoh), Joan Laage (Kogut Butoh), Natsu Nakajima, Mitsuyo Uesugi, Yumiko Yoshioka, Ko Murobushi, Hisako Horikawa, and Motimaru Dance Company.

Since 2008, she has been studying singing with Carola Caruso, following Gisela Rohmert’s Functional Voice Method. She has also deepened her work on the voice with Tivitavi’s Yoga of Sound, with Mari Boine (Lapp singing), Saynko Namcylak (Tuva harmonic singing), and Amelia Cuni (Indian Druphad singing).

Since 1995, her life, art, and teaching have been enriched by spiritual, inner, and shamanic paths. Her research into Tantric yoga and shamanism led her to dance in contact with nature, to explore the unconscious and the spirit, and to deepen her understanding of the body’s energy structures and flows.

In 1995, she encountered Hara Yoga, a practice founded by Gio’ Fronti, which draws on yoga, Zen, martial arts, therapeutic touch, Japanese culture, Indian Tantra, and shamanism. In 2001, she became a Hara Yoga teacher. She also met healers and shamans from various traditions, such as Siberian shamanism in Tuva and Venezuelan spiritualism.

In 2000, she started a 10-year artistic and therapeutic journey through Psychogenealogy and Psychomagic with Cristobal Jodorowsky, thanks to whom she trained in reading family trees and joined a research group on Psycho-shamanism. She then deepened her study of the Tarot of Marseille and Psychogenealogy with Jade Doniz for seven years, with whom she also followed a path of healing through the body using bioenergetics and holotropic breathing practices.

Since 2007, she has been giving private consultations with the Tarot of Marseille, following the method of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Jade Doniz.

Since 1990, she has performed in various theater and dance productions, collaborating with various directors and choreographers.

In 2008, together with musician Tivitavi, she founded CompagniaKha, creating numerous Butoh dance performances combined with singing and live acoustic and electronic sounds. The performances have been presented at numerous festivals and theaters in Italy, Europe (Barcelona, Paris, Lyon, Valence, London, Berlin, Basel, Vienna, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Helsinki, etc.), Mexico (Mexico City), Russia (Moscow and Krasnodar), and Ukraine (Odessa). The company has also collaborated with various artists, including Hiroko Komiya, Atsushi Takenouchi, Joan Laage, Monique Arnaud (Noh Theater Master), Marek Jason Isleib, and Alessandra Pescetta.

In 2005, together with Tivitavi, she founded Spazio Continuum in Milan, where she teaches and creates, and since 2010 she has created numerous performances with her students.

In 2021, with the performance “Mono,” she received the artistic direction award from the “Le voci dell’Anima” Festival in Rimini.

In 2021, dance critic Jean-Marie Gourreau wrote a review of her Butoh dance, published in the French magazine Critiphotodanse and entitled “Une talentueuse danseuse occidentale de butoh.”

For more than 25 years, she has been sharing her research in dance through classes and workshops in studio and in nature, in Italy and abroad.

Her seminars are immersions in the body and soul, enriching awareness of the laws of movement in dance and offering transformation, grounding, vitality, expressive freedom, and catharsis. Accompanied by live music from Tivitavi, they open the body and Being to Presence and Beauty.
