ĀTMAN

Butoh dance: Kea Tonetti
live music: Tivitavi
duration time: 90’ or 60’ (shorter version)

The Ātman is the Self, pure Consciousness projected into the world. It is the breath that gives life, the absolute within us, outside of space-time. The one who finds the Self, Ātman, embraces all worlds. With its mere presence, Ātman gives life to everything, and everything is reabsorbed into Ātman, an act of love, a breath that becomes soul. A performance where dance and sound undergo a continuous state of transformation: free, vibrant and, at the same time, still and silent. The body becomes empty and is danced; the music allows silence to penetrate the sounds. Memories and emotions manifest themselves, the boundaries of space and time open up in the present moment.

The messenger of the performance is the spirit of a fox-woman, inspired by the Japanese Kitsune who, bringing abundance and fertility, can transform themselves in everything they desire. The older they are, the wiser they are and they can have up to 9 tales; they are omniscient and can see and feel everything that happens in the world. The fox woman mirrors human thoughts, fears, madness, and attachments and represents love for earthly life, the desire to continually escape death. The fox is a vehicle for the soul, dancing the union between spirit and matter.

The performance was presented at: Festival “La voce del corpo”, Osnago (LC) – IT (2016); “The Living Art” Festival, Spazio Shed, Schio (VI) – IT (2016); Festival “Hors Lits”, Venice (2016); Festival “Haru No Kaze”, Teatro Comunale, Vicenza (2017); Most Center, Odessa – UKR (2017); Festival “Le Voci dell’Anima”, Rimini (2018).
